Navionics is an all-in-one chart to GPS route-planner (with Android and iOS apps), allowing you to plan and plot your route, including additional features such as sonar, tide, tides, weather, marks, route history. Recorded markers, which can be geotagged, help you to catch a return route if the paper plan no longer works. Drag the route marker to any point on the map, and the app planks a bubble-lined path through the surfaces, with the resulting route displayed on a map-style device, complete with current and forecast weather, distance and estimated time of arrival. Create a route marked out on the map of your choosing, with waypoints indicating your destination. Similar to the Magellan OMNIS Web site and the free CD-ROM Navionics component, the app includes a chart-plotter and route-planner that uses Google Maps’ local map to make a navigation plan. There is not automatic upgrade to the paid version it requires that you unlock the paid version if you want to further upgrade. The paid version can be upgraded after purchase and must be unlocked from within the app. In other words, you have to pay to use the navigation functions of the app. The free app is ad-supported, but the paid version provides no such ads (and is so costly that I couldn’t justify the expense). With your smartphone's GPS working correctly, this app is a great way to be vigilant about your vessel in remote locations: you can mark waypoints for future reference, or check your entry history for ideal navigation points from which to enter the next stretch of water. Zoom in as close as you'd like to pinpoint your waypoint, and the listed locations include the GPS co-ordinates as well as landmarks relevant to that point. Navionics is a chart-plotter app that incorporates Google Maps via its chart overlays into a full-featured, navigation app.
